Figure with Meat, 1954 oil on canvas Francis Bacon The Art Institute has been free for Illinois residents for the past month and continues until February 10th. This is my favorite painting housed there and I have really been enjoying the freedom of being able to walk over to the Institute in the afternoons in between classes to visit it. Fun Fact: While looking up the painting’s details on Wikipedia, I saw that the painting is featured in Tim Burton’s Batman in a scene where the Joker and his henchmen destroy several works of art. However, the Joker spares Figure with Meat, saying, “I kind of like this one, Bob. Leave it.”
